This will be the place where I will put lyrics & chords to some of my songs so you can learn how to play them yourselves. Let me know if there is a song of mine you would like to learn & I'll put the song up here for you.
Catch You If You Fall This is the song I often open my gigs with. It's a song about taking your chances and taking the plunge! Delighted that some singers have done cover versions of this including Carillion who recorded it for their CD.
Chorus Don't (G) let the fear of (D) falling Stop (Em) you from standing (C) tall Climb your (G) mountain and (D) I'll be there To (C) catch you (D) if you (C) fall
(G) Standing on a cliff top looking (D) out across the sea (Em) You look to the horizon it's (C) where you want to be (G) You're scared to take the first step in (D) to the clear blue sky (Em) But you never know you (C) might just fly (D)
Chorus
So don't be scared of trying to make your dreams come true Take hold of the chances that come to you And I'll be there beside you when you try to catch it all I'll be there to catch you if you should ever fall
Chorus
I Should Never Have Let You Go This is a much newer song. In fact it's on my current CD and it's a song about lost love set back in 1982 and is about my first ever serious girlfriend. It uses a run on the D chord which I use A LOT in my songs. The chord app I use calls the chords D, Aadd4/C#, Bm, D. Scroll down to the bottom to see what it looks like.
If you don't want to use this run you can just play D all the way through the run.
Intro; D Aadd4/C# Bm D x2
I was (D) thinking today (Aadd4/C#) of (Bm) what I might (D) say If I (G) ever saw you again (A7sus4) (A7) If we should (D) chance to meet (Aadd4/C#) on a (Bm) familiar (D) street In (G) sunshine and in rain (A7sus4) (A7) I'd (G) say how've you been after (D) all this time How've you (G) been after all of these years (A7sus4) (A7)
I (Em) want you to (A) know, I (Em) want you to (A) know I should (G) never have (A) let you (D) go
D Aadd4/C# Bm D x2
We were teenagers then we met way back when With the world at our feet so it seemed Then on that day when I walked away I ended all of our dreams If only I'd stayed by your side I'd have saved myself all these tears
I want you to know, I want you to know I should never have let you go
They (G) say you should never look (D) back on your life It's ok (G) as long as you don't (D) stare Today (G) I caught myself (D) thinking about you (G) Wondering what might have been (A7sus4) (A7) (A7sus4) (A7)
I want you to know, I want you to know I should never have let you go
I was (D) thinking today (Aadd4/C#) of (Bm) what I might (D) say If I (G) ever saw you again (A7) (D)
Woven Through Herringbone I used to take children on a guided tour of Robin Hood's Bay when I was a teacher & I used to tell them about how the fisher girls would knit their husbands a woollen jumper called a gansey. I was fascinated by the legend that each town and village on the coast had a different gansey pattern so that if a man was lost at sea and was found on the coast they could tell where he was from by the pattern on the jumper. This song won the inaugural songwriting competition at the Bedale Acoustic Music Festival & has been covered by a couple of friends.
Intro; (Fmaj7)
I (C) sit by my cottage door (G) down by the sea I'll knit my (Am) love a gansey with (Fmaj7) five pins of steel (C) Knit one, perl one, pass the (G) slip stitch over He'll be (Am) out on the sea before (Fmaj7) long
Chorus (C) Knit one for (G) honesty, (C) perl one for (Am) pride (Fmaj7) I will stay with him and (C) be by my (G) side And (Am) let all my (Fmaj7) love be (C) woven through (G) herringbone When he's (Am) out on the sea he's (G) never (Fmaj7) alone
I'll knit our marriage lines up and then down Then I'll knit a small flaw in the crook of his arm And when I cast off I know it's his only And I pray that he comes to no harm
Chorus
If ever he's lost on the tides of the ocean If ever he's lost on the tides of the sea Wherever he lies they'll know he's a Staithes man And they'll bring him back home to me
Chorus
